PLAYOFFS & SEEDING

Posted by Paul Loucks at Feb 19, 2010 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

For each division (Biddy B, Biddy A, Junior B, Junior A) there are post-season divisional playoffs.  The top eight seeded teams of each division compete in single-elimination playoffs on a Saturday and Sunday.

First round games are:

Game#1: 1 vs 8

Game#2: 4 vs 5

Game#3: 2 vs 7

Game#4: 3 vs 6

Second round matchups are:

Game#5: winners of Game#1 vs Game#2

Game#6: winners of Game#3 vs Game#4

Winners of the second round compete in the Championship on Sunday.

Seeding is determined by the best records in regular season play.  Where two or more teams in the same division have the same win-loss records, the League's Tie-Breaker Seeding Rule shall apply as follows:

TIE-BREAKER RULE

All tie-breaker steps involve only the games between members of the tied group.

For example, in a 5 way tie, we ONLY look at each team's 4 game record or in other words the results of just 4 games.

There are potentially four progressive steps (1 through 4) to be applied in breaking down a tied group.

Step 1)    Head-to-Head (H2H): First we look at H2H, to see if any team is undefeated.  If a team is unbeaten in H2H, they are top seed amongst the tied group and they are extracted.  The entire process (steps 1-4) starts over with ONLY the remaining sub-group.   If at any time H2H shows no team unbeaten, we then go to Step 2.

Step 2)    Average-Points-Allowed (APA): This step looks at average-points-allowed (APA) amongst games played between only the teams in the the group or sub-group. (Do not include any forfeited games)  If this ranks all the teams with no ties, then we are finished.  If there are still ties, try to identify a lone team with the lowest APA and extract it from the group.  Then the entire process (steps 1-4) starts over with the remaining teams.  If APA shows no lone top team, then go to Step 3.

Step 3)    Average-Points-Scored (APS): This step looks at average-points-scored (APS) amongst games played between only the teams in the group or sub-group. (Do not include any forfeited games)  If this ranks all the teams with no ties, then we are finished.  If there are still ties, try to identify a lone team with the highest APS and extract it from the group.  Then the entire process (steps 1-4) starts over with the remaining teams. If APS shows no top team, then go to Step 4.

Step 4)    If we still have a tie, we go to the President for an uncontestable decision.
